Is there no end to all the constant innovation and never-ending streams of new products, devices, and services strewn at us from every direction, causing confusion and frustration each time we have to master yet another interface? Why must we adopt? Why are we not in control of the technology that surrounds us? Why does entering a friend’s new phone number into our PC require a particular sequence of keystrokes and mouse clicks, but that same information, entered into our Palm Pilot, Pocket PC, or mobile phone require a completely different interface—right down to relearning how to draw the letters of the alphabet? At the time, I found it great fun learning the Palm Pilot language, graffiti, now I don’t even use it.
