The Art Of Software Development (part 2): Designing For Simplicity

With that first phase out of the way, it’s time to move on to what I personally find to be the most challenging phase of any software project: design. This is when you meditate on the requirements defined previously and design the architecture of your application so that it satisfies all of them, while simultaneously meeting the goals of stability, security, performance and maintainability. Needless to say, this isn’t easy – but it will get your creative juices flowing.

PHP UML Design

Poseidon for UML 1.4 released. If you haven’t tried this fantastic open source tool, you don’t know what you’re missing. Anyone doing OO design or working on OO projects, or even those just taking an interest would benefit to experiment with the UML tools in this package.

Poseidon is a freely downloadable Java app that provides you with a similar set of tools to Rational Rose, but without the price tag 😉
