It’s great if you don’t have much budget I agree. But it is only really helpful for interfaces with a very generic audience. There is also the risk of taking feedback from people who are practically professional testers. This results in critique that might not be directly related to their actual behaviour.

On a slightly different angle, Silverback is a great little usability suite for the mac. It’s cheap, easy to use and as portable as your mac book.

For a low cost solution all you need is your laptop and a pen and paper.
